Glaucoma Detection & Treatment

If left untreated, glaucoma can lead to blindness. This eye disease is a condition where pressure builds up in the eye. If left untreated, this pressure can cause damage to the optic nerve over time. Unfortunately, glaucoma can cause blindness if it is not addressed.

Glaucoma typically shows up later in life and is usually an inherited eye condition. Therefore, if you are 40 or older and your family has a history of  glaucoma, we recommend that you have an annual eye exam and specifically an eye exam that tests for glaucoma.

Dr. Zupa and her staff will test for glaucoma at your comprehensive eye exam.  There is no need to be afraid of this test, it is simple and painless. Not only do we test for glaucoma, we also use tonometry to check  your eye’s pressure and perform a visual field test to test for loss of vision.

Glaucoma should not be taken lightly. Call to schedule a comprehensive eye exam with one of our trusted Chelsea NYC optometrists.
